The national flag of Algeria ( Arabic: علم الجزائر, Berber: Akenyal en Dzayer) was adopted on 3 July 1962. A similar version was used by the Algerian government in exile from 1958 to 1962.
Design[]
The flag consists of two halves, one green and the other white, along with a red Star and Crescent layered on top.
Symbolism[]
The flag allegedly aims to represent the cultural heritage of Algeria, although the meaning is speculated. Here are some examples of different interpretations from a variety of people.

White represents purity and green represents Islam.

White and green remind of the ancient banners of Islam from the time of Prophet Muhammadﷺ, while the Star and Crescent means light.

Green represents Earth annd agriculture, the white for peace, and the Star and Crescent is a symbol of Islam. Each point of the star represent a pillar of Islam.
