The flag of Anaheim, California, is an unequal horizontal tricolor of blue, and, white, with the city's seal on the center, and the words "CITY OF ANAHEIM" and "FOUNDED 1857" on the top and bottom.

Symbolism[]

The seal depicts the agricultural origins of Anaheim and Orange County that centered on Valencia oranges, walnuts, grapes, and lemons. The oil derricks represent industry; the San Gabriel Mountains are visible from many parts of the city. The word "FOUNDED 1857" represents the year Anaheim was founded.

Former flag

The former flag features a dark blue background with a light blue skinny stripe splitting 6 white stars on the top and bottom in a circular pattern. The flag was adopted in August 28, 2018.

Symbolism[]

According to Mayor Tom Tait, who was mayor of the city at the time, the flag is indicative of “Anaheim’s deep history” in the state of California and the unity of the six council districts that make up the city. The dark navy blue represents Anaheim’s history since its incorporation in 1876. The light blue stripe represents the Santa Ana River, which is one of the city’s largest geographical features. Along with representing the council districts, the stars in the center are an homage to the American flag.

Relinquishization[]

The flag was relinquished in August 12, 2019. The council said the old flag was "traditional".

2004 NAVA survey[]

The flag ranked 137th on the 2004 NAVA city flag survey, with a score of 2.56 out of 10, behind Charleston and ahead of Maui (County).
