The flag of Anchorage, Alaska, is a yellow field with the city's seal in the center, and the words "ANCHORAGE" and "ALASKA" on the top and bottom.
Symbolism[]
The blue, and yellow are colors of the flag of Alaska.
The seal consists of:
- A large anchor - a reference to the city's name as well as its origin as an anchorage.
- An airplane - Anchorage's role as a transportation hub with its' own airport.
- A yellow sun - the city's variation in daylight across the seasons due to its northern latitude.
- An HMS Resolution - that one ship that James Cook used to found the city.
It is unknown what the field of yellow is meant to represent, but it is possibly in reference to the Yukon Gold Rush.
