The Flag of Antioquia Department Is Official Since December 10, 1962

The flag has two equal horizontal stripes.

White: symbolizes purity, integrity, obedience, eloquence and triumph.

Green: symbolizes the mountains of the department, hope, abundance, faith, service and respect.

It has its origins at the time of the cry for the independence of Colombia, around 1810. Apparently it was established by the Government Board of Santa Fe de Antioquia on the basis of the colors of the flag of the University of Antioquia (founded in 1803), that almost from its beginnings it had among its emblems a white and green flag that was hoisted in all its official acts. They are also the colors used by the Province of Cartagena when it declared independence from Spain in 1811.
