Beekdaelen is a municipality in the province of Limburg, Netherlands. The municipality was created on 1 January 2019 through a merger between the former municipalities of Onderbanken, Nuth and Schinnen.

Description[]

The flag of Beekdaelen consists of seven wavy stripes, green and white, and at a quarter of the length of the flag two bars, white and red, the length of which is equal to a quarter of the length of the flag, with in the white bar a red double-tailed crowned lion and in the red bar a white double snake-head cross on which a white shield charged with three red cakes (2,1).

Symbolism[]

The Limburg lion and the double-headed snake cross of the countly family Huyn van Amstenrade are depicted against a background of three wavy stripes. The three stripes symbolise the three municipalities that form Beekdaelen. The initial design featured three wavy green stripes on a white background, but it was ultimately decided that the reverse would be more attractive. The designer is René Vroomen, chair of the Limburg Heraldry and Banistry Commission of the Limburg Historical and Archaeological Society.
