Vexillology Wiki

Beesel is a municipality in the province of Limburg, Netherlands.

Description[]

The flag of Beesel consists of two bands, yellow and blue, touching the top, bottom and sides of the flag, one disc inside the other, hemmed and narrowly crenellated 14 times, the upper half red and the lower half green, and on it a winged dragon of one in the other, tongued and nailed in red, at a height of 3/5 of the flag height.

Symbolism[]

The dragon theme, just like the municipal coat of arms, is derived from the folkloric festival of Saint George and the dragon, which is held every seven years in Beesel. Saint George is the patron saint of the local militia. The colours of the flag are derived from the municipal coat of arms and the militia's banner. The water wheel in which the dragon is placed refers to the former watermill in Reuver.
