The flag of Bellingham, Washington, was adopted in 2016 after the flag, designed by Bradley James Lockhart, won the contest. It was raised in March of 2016 and has been adopted ever since.

Symbolism[]

The flag of Bellingham consists of 4 horizontal bars of lighter and darker shades of green. Each bar representing one of the four communities that united to form the modern city of Bellingham. Those communities are Fairhaven, Sehome, Bellingham, and Whatcom. The Blue half circle represents the Bellingham Bay, which also helped unite the 4 communities. The two 4 pointed stars represents the two indigenous tribes that once inhabited the area that encompasses Bellingham, the Lummi and the Nooksack. The wavy lines represent wavy waters, translation of the word Whatcom, from the Nooksack tribe. If it is hung vertically, it can represent the Whatcom Falls.
