The Central Denmark Region, also known as the Central Jutland Region or Mid-Jutland, is one of Denmark’s five administrative regions, created on January 1, 2007, as part of the Danish municipal reform. This reform eliminated the traditional counties (amter) and replaced them with larger administrative regions. At the same time, smaller municipalities were consolidated into larger ones, reducing the total number from 271 to 98. The reform significantly weakened regional authority, shifting more power to local municipalities and the national government in Copenhagen. The Central Denmark Region consists of 19 municipalities.
