According to this version, the red color of the flag signifies the spilled blood; while, green symbolizes the greenery and fertility of the soils of this region. It is unknown who suggested the stars, but Miguel Angel Brenes, Jr., placed them in a semicircle. In recent years, Luis Moreno placed them in the popular circular shape. The stars represent the districts of the province.
