The City of London, also known as the City, is a city, ceremonial county and local government district that contains the ancient centre, and constitutes, along with Canary Wharf, the primary central business district (CBD) of London.

Design[]

The flag is a plain white background with St. George's Cross on top. In the upper left quarter, there is a red sword. It is quite similar to the flag of England, the constituent country in which it resides, It first originated from the city’s coat of arms.

Symbolism[]

The flag of London is mainly based off of the flag of England, as it is the capital. It is believed that the sword represents the one which was used to behead Saint Paul, as he is the patron saint of the city. Some believe the sword is a dagger that commemorates the dagger of Sir William Walworth, former Lord Mayor of London, which killed Wat Tyler, leader of the Peasants' Revolt, in 1381. However, the story is considered a fable.
