The Coral Sea Islands are a collection of about thirty reefs and atolls in the Coral Sea northeast of Australia, administered as an external territory. None of the islands except Willis Island have a permanent population.
The Coral Sea Islands Territory has no official flag.
History[]
In 2004, LGBT activists symbolically claimed the Coral Sea Islands to be the Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands and raised the rainbow flag on Cato Island, in protest against planned changes to the Australian marriage law. The unrecognised micronation was dissolved in 2017 upon the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Australia.
