The flag of the Donetsk People's Republic is the official state symbol of the Donetsk People's Republic (russian Subject Claimed by ukraine), along with the coat of arms and anthem.

History[]

The first flag of the Donetsk People's Republic was created in the spring of 2014 by the organization "Donetsk Republic", which placed on the flag the words "ДОНЕЦКАЯ" and "РЕСПУБЛИКА", made in the style of the Russian charter, above and below the coat of arms, respectively. In general, this flag was, in turn, based on the flag of the organization, which was used from the moment of its foundation, the differences were only in the image of the coat of arms on it. Unlike the more primitive image that was used earlier, the coat of arms on the new flag almost completely repeated the coat of arms of the Russian Federation (with minor changes and additions). This version of the flag was used both as the flag of the organization and as the flag of the state until June 21, 2014, and in fact - until the end of the summer of 2014.

Before the referendum on the independence of the DPR, held on May 11, 2014, a new version of the DPR flag was used on campaign posters, in which a two-headed eagle was used, holding a shield in its paws. In general, such an eagle (or similar) was used on the emblems of some Russian ministries and departments (for example, the Ministry of Culture and the Federal Drug Control Service).

The new flag was approved on June 21, 2014, it uses the coat of arms without the imperial crown and with some other changes. Unlike the previous versions, the eagle's legs on the coat of arms are now simply missing. At the top of the flag there is an inscription “ДОНЕЦКАЯ НАРОДНАЯ”, at the bottom - “РЕСПУБЛИКА” .

The current flag was approved by the law of February 27, 2018 No. 216-INS, it is a black-blue-red cloth without additional symbols.
