The flag of Dowagiac, Michigan consists of a green background, with a navy-blue circle placed on the center, in the circle, there is a 4-pointed star, with 4 squares and small black circle overlaying it.
Symbolism[]
The four white petals represent a "Dogwood Flower", as the city was the first "Dogwood Tree City", and that symbol was most symbolic and related to the City of Dowagiac, and its' black circle reflects the city's location at the juncture of four townships. The compass star represents the diverse people who came to Dowagiac from its' four points. The color orange represents fire, in honor of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi as the “Keepers of the Fire". The blue circle represents water, while the green is symbolic of our agricultural roots.
