The flag of the city of Esmeraldas, the Canton Esmeraldas and the Province of Esmeraldas was created by César Névil Estupiñán. It is made up of a 3: 2 ratio rectangle that is divided into 2 equal horizontal stripes:
The upper stripe is white, and symbolizes the height of the clouds "that play happily mocking all the geometry in our wide sky" The lower strip is green, being "the genuine expression of the fresh color of our rich and fertile fields, of the wet grass of our pastures"
