The Falkland Islands are a British Overseas Territory off the coast of South America. They are also claimed by Argentina as part of the Tierra del Fuego province. The territory's flag is a Blue Ensign with its coat of arms in the fly.
The coat of arms was granted in 1948. It features blue and white waves, a ram representing sheep farming, and a ship representing the Desire, from which the islands were reportedly discovered. The motto is "Desire the right".
