The Flag of Santander Department It consists of a vertical red stripe and five other horizontal stripes in green, yellow and black. The green stripes are a third wide each, while the yellow is cut by a black strip of a third of it.

Red: symbolizes the nobility and its vertical orientation heroism.

Black And Yellow: Represents the natural wealth of the soil and especially the rich gold mining that dates back to the beginning of colonization, as well as its coal and oil deposits respectively.

Green: Represents the firm loyalty, the perseverance and the hope of the settlers who, by tilling the land, have fertilized it and enhanced it with their effort.

White Stars: (Actually 7) Represents the Provinces of Santander Department.
