Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located near the Strait of Gibraltar on the southern coast of Spain, which also claims the territory. Its flag, formalised in 1982, is a banner of the territory's coat of arms: a red castle with a golden key hanging from it, on a white and red field. It is the only flag of a British Overseas Territory to not include the Union Jack.
The government ensign, a Blue Ensign with the territory's badge, has been in use since 1875, and was last changed in 1999. A red civil ensign was introduced in 1996.
