The flag of the state of Guerrero is, like most current Mexican state flags, the coat of arms centered on a white field.
The coat of arms of Guerrero was adopted in 1951. Its shield is charged with a Jaguar warrior; the crest shows an Aztec headdress.

The idea behind this flag is to incorporate both the Aztec and Spanish history of the state. As a result, I've chosen a turquoise background to represent the Aztec origins, the pattern is also inspired by Aztec patterns. The Yellow and Red is for Spain, the red is actually the official colour from the Spanish flag! The Aztecs used patterns on their shields like this, so this would even be applicable to the current seal to feature on that little shield the warrior is carrying. Finally, the middle emblem is a Macuahuitl, a mesoamerican sword and is even featured on the seal of the region. The main reason for including the weapon? Well the regions name translated into English (From Spanish) is "Warrior". Including this made the whole design feel very relevant to the state. Imperito. 2017.
