The national flag of the Republic of Indonesia is of a simple bi colored banner seasoned with two equal horizontal bands, each sporting its respective color; red on top and white on the bottom. The flag bears a strong resemblance to Monaco's National Flag, but are slightly different in the shade of red that both flags use and the ratio of dimension are somewhat uneven as testament to both of the flag's originality. The concept of red and white coloring on the flag dates back to the 1200's when the country was known as the Majapahit Empire, but it can be argued that the banner's colors trace back to the old Austronesian mythology of the duality of Mother Earth, hence the red, and Father Sky, hence the white. This theory is further supported by the fact that a handful flags found throughout Austronesia use the same colors as Indonesia. Countless theories have been made on the true symbolism behind the red and white, but such as that red stands for courage, while the white stands for purity or that red represents the human body or physical life, while white represents the soul or spiritual life, culminating into a full human being.
