Jackson is a city in and the county seat of Madison County, Tennessee, United States.
Description[]
The flag of Jackson is a blue background with a fimbriated pall design consisting of a green pile, and green and blue stripes outlined in white. On the western section of the flag, is a white-outlined blue circle, with a white five-pointed star inside it, and three white stripes emerging from the circle that go towards the fly.
Symbolism[]
The six white lines leading into the circular shield represent the six strings and sound hole of a guitar, which is meant to honor the music history of the City of Jackson.
The large green triangle on the left is a representation of an arrow, which is a reference to the logo of the City of Jackson, which utilizes a green arrow to communicate the City's tagline: "Connect Here". The arrow also points to the right, which is symbolic of progress, hope, forward thinking, and continuous development and improvement.
The circular shield emblazoned with a star — the "Star Shield" — is a reference to the Tennessee State Flag.
The green lines are each a symbol of two separate paths. The Star Shield is symbolic of the City of Jackson as a destination.
The two paths follow the negative space of the three white lines on the right, which is symbolic of the journeys many take.
The three white lines on the right represent the three modes of transportation that give the City of Jackson its nickname of the "Hub City" (road, rail, and air).
The Star Shield's width is approximately 21% of the width of the total flag - a mathematical reference to the founding of the City of Jackson in 1821.
2022 NAVA survey[]
The flag scored 7.08 / 31st out of 312, an A- on the 2022 NAVA City Flag Survey, behind Madison, and ahead of Columbia.
Flag Contest[]
In February 2022, the city launched a contest for residents to design a new city flag as part of the Bicentennial Celebration.
After the flag redesign contest, the 3rd proposal out of the finalists won. Though, it does seem that the 3rd proposal was modified.
