The flag of Kiel contains 5 different flags. This flag does not fly at the city courthouse and only seems to be on display in an art center.

Quarterly, the national flag of Germany, the city flag of Kiel, the state flag of Wisconsin and the civil flag of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany). At the center of the whole flag is a purple disc, its diameter being one-third the width of the whole flag, bearing the Stars and Stripes between the words KIEL (above) and WI (below) in white sans serif capital letters, and with the year 1854 in small white numbers underneath. The proportions of the flag are 3:5.
