The flag of Lima is made up of the coat of arms of the city on a gray background. The coat of arms is a blue shield where there are three golden crowns and in the middle a star, a red outline, bordered with gold where the Latin phrase Hoc signum vere regum est is also read in golden letters, which means «This it is the true sign of the kings ”, and all this flanked on the sides by two crowned black eagles that enclose the letters I and K in honor of Juana I of Castile (Ioana) and Carlos I of Spain (Karolus), on these letters another golden star is found.1 The symbolism of the central part of the shield is related to the fact that Francisco Pizarro founded the city on the day of the Epiphany, with the crowns representing the Magi and the star representing the Star of Bethlehem.
