The flag of Los Angeles, California, are three notched stripes of green, yellow, and red, with the state seal in the center.

Symbolism[]

The green, yellow, and red represent olive trees, orange groves, and vineyards. They also symbolize Spain (yellow and red), and Mexico (green and red), as Los Angeles was once part of Spain and Mexico.

The city seal composes of:

  • A heraldic shield divided into 4 sections composing of the flags of the United States and California (the country and state where the city is located), a stylized version of an eagle biting a snakd while perched on top of a cactus (symbolizing Mexico), and a tower and lion (representing Spain).
  • Surrounding the shield are grapes, olives, and oranges, which are California's major crops.

2004 NAVA survey[]

The flag scored a total of 5.24, and was ranked as the 33rd (insert replacement for best here) flag, behind Buffalo, New York.
