Symbolism[]
The dark cyan represents the sky, the white wavy line the Kansas River, which flows right by the city, and the apple pays homage to the city's nickname "The Little Apple". The green represents the environment around Manhattan, resting within the Flint Hills.
First flag (2009-2019)[]
The first flag of Manhattan was adopted in 2009. it had a white banner with a black horizontal line extending across its length. On top of the line was a red apple with a green stem and leaf. Next to the apple sat the words "CITY OF MANHATTAN". The "CITY OF" was black, vertical text. The word "MANHATTAN" was written in a unique font, and was colored dark green. Below the line was the name of the state, Kansas, in spaced red lettering.
