The national flag of Mongolia is among the most symbolic of national flags worldwide. Its appearance consists of 3 vertical rectangles of color including red, blue and red. The red stripe represents freedom and prosperity, but in the past, it also was a symbol of the Communist era and Mongolian People Republic. The middle blue symbolizes the color of the eternal blue sky. On the left stripe, there is the national symbol of Mongolia called Soyombo which was officially adopted to the Mongolian flag on January 12, 1992. The Soyombo symbol is a geometric abstraction that represents fire, sun, moon, earth, water, and a Taijitu symbol representing the duality of yin and yang.
