Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. Its flag is a Blue Ensign with the territory's coat of arms in the fly.
The coat of arms was adopted in 1909. It depicts Erin, the personification of Ireland, in green, holding a Celtic harp and a black cross. The Irish symbols represent the settlers who have moved to the island from Ireland, starting in 1632; the cross represents Christianity.
