The flag of New York City, New York, is a vertical tricolor of orange, white, and blue, with the city's seal in the center.
Symbolism[]
The blue, white and orange refer to the colors of the historical Dutch flag. Orange is the color the Dutch adopted after their leader William I, Prince of Orange. The bald eagle is the symbol of the United States of America, the Native American refers to the original inhabitants of the area, the seaman symbolizes the colonizers of the area, the 2 beavers symbolizes the Dutch West India Company, the windmill remembers the Dutch history of the city, the flour barrels refers that in the 17th century, New York had been granted a short-lived monopoly on milling, which established the fledgling colony as a commercial powerhouse.
