The North Jutland Region, also known as the North Denmark Region in some official sources, is an administrative division of Denmark created on January 1, 2007, as part of a nationwide municipal reform. This reform replaced the traditional counties (amter) with five larger regions and merged smaller municipalities into bigger ones, reducing the total number of municipalities from 271 in early 2006 to 98. The North Jutland Region now consists of 11 municipalities. The reform significantly reduced the authority of regional governments, shifting more power to local municipalities and the central government in Copenhagen.
