Nouakchott is the capital and largest city of Mauritania. Nouakchott is divided into three administrative regions (wilayat):
- Nouakchott-Nord (Nouakchott-North)
- Nouakchott-Ouest (Nouakchott-West)
- Nouakchott-Sud (Nouakchott-South)
The 3 provinces of Nouakchott created in 2014 constituted the Urban Community of the Capital (or Capital District) have been renamed Region of Nouakchott in 2018. (Acording to FotW).
