The national flag of Pakistan is also known as the Flag of the Star and Crescent (Urdu: پرچمِ ستارہ و ہلال).
Design[]
The flag is made up of a white star and crescent on a dark green field, with a vertical white stripe at the hoist.
Symbolism[]
The Pakistan flag consists of a simple design, with a dark green field representing Islam and a vertical white stripe on the left side symbolising the country’s minorities and religious groups. The Star and Crescent represents progress and light, as well as traditionally being a popular symbol to represent Islam, being used in flags ever since the Ottoman Empire.
History[]
The flag was based off the flag of the All-India Muslim League, which was the party that encouraged the idea of a partition of India.
