The flag of the Republic of the Philippines is a vertical bicolor of blue and red, with a white triangle, a yellow sun with eight rays and three yellow stars on each corner of the triangle.

Symbolism[]

The triangle symbolizes liberty, equality, and fraternity, the blue stripe is for peace, truth, and justice and the red stripe for patriotism and valor. The golden sun symbolizes unity, freedom, people's democracy, and sovereignty. The rays of the sun symbolized the first eight provinces of the Philippines which was declared under martial law during the Philippine Revolution (Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Manila, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga and Tarlac). The three five-pointed stars stand for the three major islands where the revolution started: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
