Pittsburgh is a city in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States, and its county seat.
Description[]
The flag of Pittsburgh is a vertical triband of black and yellow. It has two black bars on the left and right with a yellow bar in the middle. In the central yellow stripe is the coat of arms of Pittsburgh.
Symbolism[]
The black and gold can be traced as far back as Sir William Pitt designing the coat of arms in the 1700s. The black and gold is most commonly associated with the Pittsburgh sports teams.
Coats of Arms[]
It is based on the coat of arms of William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham. The official blazon of the city's coat of arms, as defined by a 1925 city ordinance, is as follows:
On a field Sable, a fess chequay Argent et Azure, between three bezants bearing eagles rising with wings displayed and inverted Or. For crest, Sable a triple-towered castle masoned Argent.

Civil Ensign[]
The city ensign or merchant flag is similar of the city flag. However the proportions are shorter with a 4:5 ratio proportion. The shield is also gone, being replaced with the castle. around the castle are 13 dark blue stars. These most likely represent the 13 original colonies, Pennsylvania being one of them.
