The Flag of Provo is the official flag of Provo, UT. The first flag was adopted 1976 and has went through 2 other flag changes since then. The current flag was adopted in 2015. The most well known of the 3 flags was the 2nd flag, due to it looking like the Centrum vitamins logo.

1st Provo City Flag (1976-1989)[]

The first flag of Provo was unveiled on April 7, 1976. The flag was a red blue bicolor separated by a stylized "P" which stood for "Provo." At the bottom right corner of the flag is the year "1848" in the same stylized font as the "P." The flag was designed by students at of the Utah Lake Lions Club, as part of a contest to get Provo into the National Bicentennial.

2nd Provo City Flag (1989-2015)[]

The Second flag of Provo was introduced by former Provo mayor J. Jenkins, and was adopted April 25, 1989. The flag was based of a flag design by S. Hales, which included the cities former logo. The flag was a pure white background with the word "Provo" in black lettering with grey shadows. The text is slanted on a rainbow bar running diagonally towards the center. The rainbow is meant to represent the "eclectic and diverse nature" of Provo, according to the city government.

The flag gained traction in 2004 after a survey was conducted in the same year by members of the North American Vexillological Association (NAVA). The Provo flag ranked 143rd out of 150. This made it the 7th worst city flag on the survey, with a score of 2.14 out of 10. Various Newspapers referenced the flag as a "notoriously bad among flag enthusiasts." Many would Often Compare the flag to that of Centrum vitamins, as well as a "Work of art drawn in magic markers and crayons."

3rd Provo City Flag (2015-Present)[]

After extreme backlash towards the city's flag, Mayor of Provo John Curtis decided that the city needed a new design for its flag. The first documents filling for a new flag for the city were published in May 2014. The Flag replacement process was narrowed to two options by a three-member committee. They both consisted of Utah lake with nearby mountains. However, the designs were not received well by city residents, which led to the contest being canceled in early June. A nearby university known as "The University of Utah" contacted the city committee and asked them not to use the color red, as it was the color of their university, to which the city agreed. A total of 51 proposals were submitted to an online poll in July. Two of the most popular designs were introduced to the City Council in September. On January 6, 2015, the City council of Provo selected the city's new flag. The Design Includes the City's new logo on a blue background, in other words, a shield on a bedsheet, without words. The logo is a sun setting over the mountains, with water at the base of the mountains. Very simple, though it could get confused with a generic American shield on a bedsheet flag.
