The flag of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico consists of five alternating red and white horizontal stripes. At the hoist is a blue equilateral triangle with a white five-pointed star in its center. It is based on the similar flag of Cuba.

The flag was first used in the 1890s, but was banned after the island came under U.S. control in 1898. It was readopted when Puerto Rico became a commonwealth in 1952.
