The flag of Raleigh, North Carolina, is a vertical triband of red and white, with the city's coat of arms in the center.

Symbolism[]

The red-white-red triband is a reference to Walter Raleigh, who the city was named after, as red and white were the colors of his arms.

The oak tree and oak leaves with gold acorns on the left and right is a reference to Raleigh's nickname "City of Oaks".

The text reading "ESTABLISHED 1792" under the tree refers to the time when land in Wake County was purchased for a planned capital. 1792 was also the year the state's General Assembly named the city "Raleigh".
