Saint Barthélemy is a French overseas collectivity in the Caribbean. Previously part of Guadeloupe, it seceded in 2003. Saint Barthélemy has no official flag other than the French tricolour, but a white flag with its coat of arms is used unofficially.
The coat of arms combines the heraldic symbols of the three states that have ruled over the island: the three fleurs-de-lis of France, a Maltese cross representing the Knights Hospitaller, and the three crowns of Sweden. The supporters are two pelicans; the motto "Ouanalao" is the indigenous name of the island.
