The flag of Salem, Oregon, is a white background, with a blue stripe in the hoist, and a cherry blossom on the center. It was adopted in 2022.
Symbolism[]
The cherry blossom represents Salem as the "The Cherry City" for its' cherry trees. The star represents the state capital. The blue represents the Willamette River.
Former flag (1972-2022)[]
The former flag are 5 stripes of yellow, blue, and green forming a star on a white background, with the word "salem" on the yellow stripe, and a depiction of a monument on the green stripe.
Symbolism[]
The star indicates that is the capital of Oregon. The building on the green stripe depicts the landmark sculpture of the Oregon Pioneer on the top of the Capitol Building. The white background shows peace and honor, the blue symbolizes the sky and water, the green represents freshness and eternal hope and the golden yellow indicates fulfillment and the enjoyment of nature’s bounty. Together these colors also indicate the four seasons and are reminiscent of Salem’s setting, between mountains, rivers, and fields.
