The flag of St. Louis, Missouri features a red background with two wavy white and blue lines that merge together in the left center to create one whole line. Where the lines merge there is a yellow circle with a blue fleur-de-lis.

Symbolism[]

The white and blue wavy bars symbolizes the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. The blue fleur-de-lis symbolizes the French background of the early City and more particularly to St. Louis of France for whom the City is named. The golden disk represents the City and/or the Louisiana Purchase. The flag's colors recall those of Spain (red and yellow or gold), Bourbon France (white and gold), Napoleonic and Republican France (blue, white and red), and the United States of America (red, white, and blue).

The flag of St. Louis was rated 5th place in the 2004 NAVA city flag survey with a score of 8.56.

The former flag features a vertical tricolor of red, white, and blue, In each corner of the flag are 4 white stars, On the center of the flag is a blue shield fimbriated in white. Inside the shield is a lady riding a horse while holding a torch. Under it is a white fleur-de-lis, separated by a line.
