Tamaulipas is, like most current Mexican state flags, the coat of arms centred on a white field.
The flag of the state ofThe coat of arms of Tamaulipas consists of four sections, three of which represent the main activities of the state, agriculture, animal husbandry, fishing and oil production. In the middle of the upper sections there's the Coat of Don José de Escandón, first governor of Nuevo Santander. On the lower section there's also Cerro del Bernal, icon of the State.

The flag is based on the coat of arms of Jose de Escandon, Count of Sierra Gorda, found on the state's coat of arms. Instead of barracks, eagle and the cauldron with a flag, its replacement symbols in the red quarters were based on the two major industries that shaped its economy: the Lone Star, symbolizing the shared economic culture with that of Texas for the northern as it was the home of maquiladoras (export-oriented manufacturing) and the storage tank for the southern's petrochemicals. timowp17. 2017.
