The national flag of the Kingdom of Thailand is a tricolor banner wearing five horizontal strips running through its fabric and from top to bottom, its meaning is best summed up by the country's informal slogan; nation-religion-king. Red signifies the nation, the white reflects on religion and the blue stands for monarchy. The current design was adopted in 28 September 1917 at the behest of Thai King Rama VI and that day is celebrated annually as Flag Day in the kingdom. Some speculations were formed as to the reasoning behind the decision to make Thai flag look like this and its use of colors, with one theory were to appease the Allies during World War I.
