The Tulu Flag is a popular symbol widely identified with:

  • The Tulu people, aldo known as Tuluvas or Tuluver, a dravidian ethno-linguistic group native of the state of Karnataka and Kerala in India.
  • The cultural region of Tulu Nadu or Tulunad, where the Tulu people is the preponderant ethnic group.
  • The Tulu language and culture.

Symbolism[]

The genesis of Tulu flag has stemmed from Kepula flower (local parlance) which is maroon in colour. The flower is important during rituals, thus symbolising the culture of the land.

Variants[]

Due to its unofficial nature, the Tulu flag varies in color and design. The field ranges from a dark maroon to red, and the shape of the flag can be rectangular or triangular (pennon).
