The National flag of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a seemingly simple design that was stated to be designed by a revolutionary named Nguyễn Hữu Tiế, who was arrested and executed after a failed uprising against the French in 1941. The flag is rectangular in shape, sporting a five-pointed golden star in the middle of a crimson red background. The red background represents the blood that is spilled in the name of the communist revolution. The five-pointed star symbolizes both the Vietnamese people and the five major classes in their society that includes: workers, peasants, soldiers, intellectuals, and businessmen. However in 2005, it was reported that the national flag was designed by a different person, named Lê Quang Sô, that intended the star to symbolize the entirety of Vietnam and the red background was supposed to embody the communist revolution. No official documentation on who designed the flag has been found or reported yet.
